The most common questions a sexologist gets asked and what you need to know about them

These days, I don’t always like to tell people what I do because when I utter the words ‘sexologist’, the questions come flying. Don’t get me wrong, if you meet me, I am more than happy to answer, but I also have times when I wish I could clock off. So, after my many years of talking to people about the most intimate parts of their life, I thought it might be good to put together some of the most common questions I get to help those out that don’t find me in the flesh. Instead of just answering these questions because that would be boring, I’ve decided to point out what is wrong with the question in the first place. When it comes to sex and relationships, sometimes the problems are the questions themselves. How do we spice things up? I love and loathe this question at the same…

Why It’s important to talk about porn

You only have to look at the statistics to understand the enormity of the porn industry. Last year, according to PornHub, there were 28.5 billion visitors with 81 million a day and 50,000 searches a minute.  And that’s only one site. Cannasexuality

Gone are the days where the word “weed was about teenagers cutting pieces of hoses and making dirty bongs out of drink bottles. I once had to inform my own mother why her hose out the front of the house kept getting shorter and how the boys down the street might be to blame. We now have a world of sophisticated and useful cannabis with ingesting, smoking or vaping it in some countries feeling as socially acceptable as a glass of wine. Only recently in West Hollywood, I walked past what I thought was a beauty salon only to realise it was a weed shop, buzzing with people and elegant in looks. In the US, nine states and Washington DC have legalised marijuana for recreational use, not even a doctor’s prescription needed with medical marijuana legal in another 29. It was only a matter of time before the idea of…

Sexy Seniors – The Key to a Happy Life

We are a society that is overly focused with being sexy. You don’t just have to be attractive and smart these days but sexy too. Even a nail colour or an inanimate object can be sexy. So then isn’t it ironic that as we age, the word sexy seems to be the one thing that is not used. Getting older is about being cute, wise and elegant, but unless you are Jane Fonda, being sexually attractive is not often a label used. But this issue has more importance and depth than just losing the label of sexy. As we age, sex is more important. Sex isn’t about just making babies and trying to prolong the honeymoon phase. A lot to do with how we see being sexy in an older generation has much to do with how we see sex in general. It’s not all about penetration, procreation and physical…
