Should Couples Commit To Marrying For A Decade Instead Of Forever?

It isn’t working for so many. As a former family mediator and the person who seems to hold the relationship secrets of others, I have often wondered, “Is any married couple happy?” It might sound overly negative, but when you consider our divorce rates (some say nearly 50%, others 1 in 3) you can’t ignore that it isn’t working for so many. As a solution focused Sexologist, I have always been fascinated at what we might be able to do differently. Last year I reported on the idea of the ten-year marriage contract, which is a document you sign that can be renewed at the ten-year mark and committed to for another length of time. It can also be ended with two people completing a contract instead of failing at a marriage.  This was not my idea but one I found from a woman in New York, Emma who is…

Why dating after divorce is better than you think

While dating after a divorce can be daunting, relationship and sex expert, Dr Nikki Goldstein, says it’s actually full of golden opportunities. As we get older, there seems to be this rush to “work it all out”: have the career and find the ‘traditional’ family bliss we are taught is the key to a great life. Sure, this is the case for some, but it’s not for everyone. What if you were married, had children and it didn’t work out? Then what? Divorce used to have such a negative stigma. It was as though divorcees had failed at something or there was something wrong with you. But maybe some of us just aren’t meant to be with one person for the rest of our lives. Some relationships just don’t work. As we continue to grow throughout life, the choices we made when we were younger might not work for who we…

The Mould Of Marriage – Yahoo7 Blog

I now am writing weekly blogs for Yahoo7 and just in case you missed it , I wanted to share yesterday’s blog with you. For more like this, make sure you visit –  http://au.lifestyle.yahoo.com/health/blogs/sexologist/   xoxo   Dr Nikki     So an old friend of mine recently got married and like all good brides, as soon as the “I dos” were over, her photos appeared on Facebook. But as I was looking through these photos a feeling of familiarity came over me. I’ve seen this all before. The same manufactured shots where this is made to look like the happiest day of their lives. A picture can say a thousand words, but in wedding photos all it says is, “look how happy we are,” often prompted by the amazing skills of…

George Clooney – I never want to get married again?

I woke up yesterday morning to a news story on Sunrise about George Clonney possibly being single and once again his beliefs on  marriage came under fire. George married Talia Balsam in 1989 and they were divorced in 1993 and after this, he said he would never marry again. This is always a hot topic with media and this belief can rub people the wrong way. But here is the thing, he said he was never going to marry not never going to commit to someone else or be in a relationship. Here is the other thing, he might also be happy the way he is. Should we be calling him a forever playboy or just brave for working out what he wants in life and standing up for it publicly.   We live in a society that puts so much pressure on marriage as the ultimate happiness. But for…
