Valentine’s Day: Single, Smelly, Sexy or Shiny?

It’s that time of year again, when pressure is high and the future of a relationship is either made or questioned. Yes, Valentine’s Day! You might think that sounds dramatic, but there have been years when I have been an expectant girlfriend (by expectant, I don’t mean pregnant but rather wanting a token of love from my BF), worried my partner would let me down and I’d be left questioning if he loved me enough to think about something special on this romantic day (shallow, I know, but it’s the thought we really want).

So, I’m going to give you a helping hand in the categories I think will work best this Valentine’s Day. Single (yes, single girls deserve gifts on Feb 14, too); smelly (the good smells); sexy; and shiny. Gifts on this romantic day don’t need to be restricted to lovers. Have a think if there is someone in your life who might love a present or appreciate a thought. It’s a day of love, and not exclusively the romantic type. For women who’d like to give a gentle nudge to the men in their life (or their best friend), just make sure this post appears somewhere in their inbox or Facebook feed. Who said hinting wasn’t allowed on Valentine’s Day?

And because I love my loyal followers I’m giving you the chance to get a Valentine’s Day goodie from me to you. Keep your eyes open, as there are some giveaways at the bottom of the article. (And it’s my way of rewarding you for reading all the way to the end).

Single Ladies Put Your Hands Up ( and shake that good thing all about)
For all you single ladies out there, Valentine’s Day is a time to celebrate your current relationship status. It’s a good time to reflect on the events in your life that have led to your being single. This is not a negative thing; in fact, it is quite the opposite. Are you single because you’ve come out of a bad breakup and are recovering? Are you taking some time for yourself? Or have you not met the right guy, yet? All these things are worth celebrating, because it means you have made the right choices and are in the situation where you can meet Mr Right. If you’re trapped in a relationship that is doing you harm or you feel isn’t working, Valentine’s Day can be excruciating. As a single lady, you’re in the position to celebrate the possibility of love and also making those steps in your life to love yourself. So why not brush up on your dating skills with a little bit of education about the one thing all women struggle to understand – men!

man&you
In their new book, Men & You, authors Jayde Kelly and Rikki Markson aim to educate women of the world of men by defining them by their career choices. This book is a funny, entertaining and informative smorgasbord of stories and advice on menfolk. From artists to investment bankers, the book tells you where to find them, what to do with them when you do, and how good they are in bed. This is a great present for yourself (yes, you can buy yourself presents on Valentine’s Day), or for a friend. It’s perfect for any woman who wants to know her worth in the dating game.

Men & You ($27.99, Mira) is available from Big W, Target, Dymocks and online here

The Smelly Scents
Once again, I am talking about good smells or scents (not a Dutch oven). This is a good, safe option if you’re looking for a token gift or something you can’t go wrong with. One of the problems with buying presents on Valentine’s Day is knowing whether or not your gift will hit the mark. And, if you’re unsure, it’s better to take the safe road than go terribly wrong. Perfumes and lotions are also great for new relationships, when you’d like to buy him/her something, but are concerned about going over-the-top. Also choose perfume for platonic loved ones. And here’s a hint for the single girl present: Men & You and LUSH Prince Charming Shower Gel, see below.

Smelly gift ideas:
LUSH Cupid's Love Soap
LUSH Cupid’s Love Soap
, $6.95, is fruity soap filled with fresh figs and passion fruit.
LUSH Heart Throb Bubbleroon
LUSH Heart Throb Bubbleroon
, $7.50 is all the romance of a French patisserie in a passionate red shea butter sandwich.
LUSH Prince Charming Shower Gel
LUSH Prince Charming Shower Gel
, $16.50. I love the sound of this one. Containing marshmallow root and Fair Trade vanilla pod, this concoction is very soothing. It’s boosted by nourishing almond oil, and cleansing and cooling fresh pomegranate juice.

Get Your Sexy On
For those in romantic relationships, Valentine’s Day provides a great opportunity to spice things up. It’s interesting that most of my new-mum friends tell me the first thing they buy when they want to feel sexy after giving birth, is some nice lingerie. It’s a way to transform a woman into the sexual goodness she wants to be. If you are going to buy your lady some lingerie, just make sure that you choose the right size (tip: look in her lingerie drawer or ask one of her friends). And let her know it’s something for her, not just a ploy to get some sexy time. It will probably be the end result, anyway.

Now, unless you’ve been living under a rock, the next one will come as no surprise. This Valentine’s Day there is sure to be a kinkier feel in the air thanks to the release of the Fifty Shades Of Grey movie. So why not continue with this theme and give your partner a taste of the real thing?

Beginners Bondage Kit
Give Fifty Shades of Grey Submit To Me Beginners Bondage Kit (click here) from Love Honey (click here) a go. It contains four bondage restraints, a blindfold and a spanking paddle for $92.95, to get you started.

Shiny And Sparkly
This category is for those who have been in a relationship for a bit longer, and the big guns are expected (and deserved). Or maybe you need a little bit of shine to really reinforce that message of love? This is another safe option, as long as you get her taste in jewellery right. A little bit of research will pay off here. Plus, a present is always that much better when you know someone has spent time and effort on the decision. These are my faves from jeweller Kate McCoy (click here). This is my way of dropping my hint for Valentine’s Day, subtle, hey?

The shiny gift list:

Linearis Rose Gold Earrings, $220. These elegant, geometric earrings are sure to make a girl feel like a million dollars.

Classic Cocktail Ring in Lavender
, $460. A little bit of bling never goes unappreciated.

Classic Thin Gold Bangle, $110. This is perfect for ladies with refined, classic tastes.

Now I love a bit of gift giving. (Think of me like the Sexy Santa of Valentine’s day, lol). I have a few goodies that have been mentioned above and all you need to do is jump onto my facebook page Dr Nikki Goldstein (and give me a like if you haven’t already) and send me a message telling me why you want or think you deserve a particular product. Yes it’s just that easy.

Now if you want to give a gift that might give back, why not try something like a massage oil. This is not meant as a subtle way to get some hands on pleasure rather how about I’ll scratch your back and you scratch mine (or massage). Why not try the Smoky Poppy Massage Oil from the Body Shop at $27.95
